Thursday, 8/30/2007 Up early this morning to leave our "Train Wreck" train car, and leave Seward for Anchorage. It is yet another beautiful day, which is unheard of in these parts. As we passed the Turnagain Arm, it appeared that the tide was in, and the nearly full moon was setting in the northwest. |

We made it to the Anchorage library, where we accessed email to get Marcia nd Denny Hamilton's number so we could meet them in Seattle. Then we went to the airport and had a few glitches. 1. We were carrying 3 full water bottles. Arthur emptied them while we waited. 2. I had a small Daisy-Fresh bottle. We waited again while I managed to put it in my plastic bag along with the other tiny liquids. 3. Natan's backpack didn't pass inspection, because he had put the Ulu knife for Ben in his backpack. While Arthur and Natan waited, I ran (in stocking feet) back with the Ulu knife and Arthur's backpack, and checked them on the plane. 4. Coming back (shoe-less) through security once again, it turns out that my Leatherman tool was in my purse. Curses! I didn't have anything more I could check, so I had to mail it. Oy. Finally got through security and on the plane. Gorgeous views of the Kenai ice fields and glaciers from the plane. |

Marcia and Denny picked us up at the airport in Seattle, took us to our hotel near the airport, and took us out to a Mexican dinner along with their son, their daughter, and their daughter's boyfriend. We had a fabulous time. Their son and daughter belong to a band. I wish Kally could've been there.

Goodbye, Alaska! | |
Friday, August 31, 2007 We took Natan to the airport and saw him takeoff for Philadelphia. Then we started the long drive home to Berkeley. It was clear that California was in a drought. Water levels in the reservoirs were down to dregs. |
